Alpinestars was founded in Asolo, in northern Italy, in 1963 by Sante Mazzarolo. It started out making hiking and ski boots, shifted to motocross boots and then road racing boots, and only branched into gloves, jackets and full leather suits during the 1990s. The name comes from Stella Alpina, the alpine flower that grows in the mountains around where the company began.
